Born in East Germany and residing in Edmonton, Canada since 2008,
Karl Michael Toepfer has been active in the field of Sound Art and Noise since around 2007 under a variety of monikers as well as under his given name.

His work is inspired and informed by concepts and theories surrounding intrapersonal and interpersonal communication, feedback as well as social cognition and sensory perception processes.

Content is created in a variety of different ways: by misappropriating tools, devices and circuits in order to initiate feedback systems or by misusing non-sound producing circuits as sound or sound-control sources, by capturing sound events through field recording and by re-contextualizing pre-recorded sounds into abstract, concrete collages and auditory events.

Toepfer's recorded material has been released on a number of labels in Canada, the United States and Europe. He has performed live in Western Canada and the United States.

In recent years, Toepfer has also worked in the area of Visual Art – inspired by Generative Art, Glitch Art, Op Art and Systems Art.

He runs and curates the DIY-imprint Lead Lozenges and has published works by artists from Canada, the United States, South Korea and India.
